We are the Pregs and this is our website. Thank you for checking it out and we hope you enjoy hearing about our life and adventures. We currently live in Bangkok, Thailand, and love exploring new places, eating new foods, and meeting all the amazing people God allows to cross our path.
Jonathan is an amazing artist with a heart for the Lord. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in Teaching. On our first date, we talked about our desire to serve abroad. We always assumed that upon graduating with a global degree, Lyndsey would get the first job to take us to another country and he was excited about that because teachers are needed everywhere. Plus, there is less of a language barrier when it comes to art than many other subjects.
We got engaged in October and began planning a honeymoon in Thailand. Yes, Thailand! Both of our parents had been and spoke so highly of the country and people. In all of our travel experiences, Jonathan had only touched Asia momentarily and Lyndsey had never been. J+L were so excited to share the new experience. In January, Jonathan was starting the second half of his first year of teaching and had taken on additional roles of head cross-country coach and assistant track and field coach. We were doing premarital counseling, planning a wedding, and Lyndsey was in her last year of graduate school, working fervently on her thesis. Planning a honeymoon in Thailand started to seem a little overwhelming, so in February we decided to honeymoon in the Caribbean and head to Thailand for our 5-year anniversary. Thankfully God had other plans!
Growing up, Lyndsey did multiple high-impact sports intensely, so health and nutrition became an integral part of her life. When she was 9, she told her parents she wanted to be an OBGYN, focusing on deliveries, and specifically serving on Mercy Ships. She can now see the plan God was orchestrating for her life to use the passions he had given her. She participated in medical mission trips abroad in Guatemala and Kenya and then pursed a Chemistry Major with Math and Bioinformatics minors to prepare her for her dream job. Long story short, after taking the MCAT test twice, her test-taking skills were just not competitive. It was a heartbreaking realization to discover that what she thought was God’s plan for her life was not what He had for her. She received so much encouragement from her Touch Team group and friends from the college group at Passion City Church.
Through much prayer and advice spoken into her life, she decided to apply for a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, realizing that she could focus in all of the things she was most interested in, while having a life more conducive to starting a family, which she had also always dreamed of. She felt that God was calling her specifically to the combination offered at Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health. She got an MPH in the Global Health department, where she received wonderful training on topics from ethics and cultural humility to biostatistics and data visualization skills. The most noteworthy part of the program exciting to Lyndsey, however, was that she was able to do a concentration in Nutrition and an additional certificate program for Maternal and Child Health, making her specialty maternal nutrition (before, during, and after pregnancy and lactation) in undernourished countries. Her thesis focused on cultural beliefs related to women’s diets in pregnancy and most of the content she found for her literature review came from Southeast Asia. God has been knitting her experiences and passions into the perfect field for her, His ways are always perfect!
